Cajun Rollergirls Join Louisiana Roller Derby Leagues to Collect Supplies for Local Women’s Shelters

Roller derby leagues from across Louisiana, including your Cajun Rollergirls, are joining forces this February for Louisiana Mardi Bras, a drive to collect much-needed supplies for the numerous local women’s homeless and battered women’s shelters throughout the state.

From Feb. 1-28, the state’s roller derby leagues will be accepting donations of items needed by women who turn to the shelters as refuge from tumultuous situations.

“This is a great example of Louisiana derby unified for a common goal,” said Aaron “PR Mageddon” Looney, public relations director of the Cajun Rollergirls. “These shelters operate on tight budgets and always have a need for supplies for women seeking assistance. We want them to have these vital items to provide for these women in their time of need.”

The Cajun Rollergirls will be donating items collected to The Haven, a Houma-based shelter that provides counseling and other support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. To learn more about The Haven, visit www.havenhelps.org or call 872-0757.

Items requested for donation include tampons, pads, panty liners, razors, hair brushes, multi-packs of underwear in various sizes, bras in various sizes, multi-packs of socks, flushable wipes, women’s deodorant and body wash. Other items specifically requested by The Haven include bathroom and kitchen cleaning supplies, light bulbs, flashlights, batteries, diapers, lotion, towels, hair care products, therapy items and school supplies. Only new items will be accepted.

The following locations in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes will be accepting Louisiana Mardi Bras donations for the Cajun Rollergirls during their respective operating hours:
